Strong Current Warning – Safety is Our #1 Priority
At Sharkey’s, your safety always comes first. While kayaking is an incredible experience, strong currents can create hazardous conditions that make paddling unsafe. If the current reaches dangerous levels, we must take action to protect you and your group from potential risks.
For safety reasons, we may have to cancel your booking.
Why Currents Are Dangerous for Kayaking
Water currents play a major role in paddling conditions, and when they become too strong, they can create serious safety concerns:
Increased Difficulty in Paddling
Strong currents make it much harder to paddle, causing rapid fatigue and making it difficult to return to the launch point.
Risk of Drifting Off Course
Even experienced paddlers can struggle to stay on course when battling strong currents.
Capsizing & Safety Concerns
Fast-moving water can make kayaks unstable, increasing the risk of tipping over.
Dangerous Obstacles & Hazards
Currents can carry paddlers toward rocks, boats, or other dangerous areas.
Potential Need for Rescue
If conditions become too dangerous, paddlers may require external assistance, adding unnecessary risk.
What Happens When We Issue a Strong Current Warning?
If strong currents are forecasted for your scheduled tour, we will reach out to inform you as soon as possible. For safety reasons, we may have to cancel your booking.
Your Options
In the event of a current-related cancellation, we offer the following solutions:
Reschedule – We can move you to a different time or day with calmer conditions.
Relocate – If another location is less affected by currents, we may be able to move your tour there.
Refund – If rescheduling or relocating doesn’t work, we can process a full refund.
We understand that cancellations can be disappointing, but safety is our top priority. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable and secure experience, and sometimes that means making the tough call to cancel.
