Storm Threat Warning – Safety is Our #1 Priority
At Sharkey’s, your safety always comes first. While kayaking is an incredible experience, storms can create hazardous conditions that make paddling unsafe. If storm conditions threaten your tour, we must take action to ensure your safety and prevent dangerous situations.
Why Storms Are Dangerous for Kayaking
Storms can quickly change water conditions, leading to serious safety concerns:
1. High Winds & Strong Currents
Storms often bring strong winds and fast-moving currents that can make paddling extremely difficult.
2. Lightning Hazards
Being on the water during a thunderstorm is extremely dangerous due to the risk of lightning strikes.
3. Reduced Visibility & Heavy Rain
Storms can create low-visibility conditions, making it harder to navigate and communicate.
4. Sudden Temperature Drops
Storm systems can bring rapid temperature changes, leading to discomfort and potential hypothermia.
5. Unpredictable Water Conditions
Storms can cause sudden waves, rising tides, and choppy waters, increasing the risk of capsizing.
When We Issue a Storm Warning?
If storms are expected in your scheduled tour area, we will reach out to inform you as soon as possible. For safety reasons, we may have to cancel your booking.
Your Options
In the event of a storm-related cancellation, we offer the following solutions:
Reschedule – We can move you to a different time or day with calmer conditions.
Relocate – If another location is less affected by storms, we may be able to move your tour there.
Refund – If rescheduling or relocating doesn’t work, we can process a full refund.
We understand that cancellations can be disappointing, but safety is our top priority. Our goal is to provide an enjoyable and secure experience, and sometimes that means making the tough call to cancel.
